DIVISIONAL COMMANDER SENDS OUT REASSURING MESSAGE TO RESIDENTS FOLLOWING ON FROM ROYAL VISIT

GMP Crest

Police in south Manchester are sending out a reassuring message to residents following on from ITV’s Duchess on the Estate programme.

Chief Superintendent David Anthony said:

“Part two of Duchess on the Estate featured an incident in which damage was caused to Northern Moor community centre. It was initially thought that the damage may have been caused by gunfire but a comprehensive investigation revealed no evidence to suggest that a firearm caused this damage. This information was relayed to the programme makers.

“I want to reassure residents that incidents involving firearms are extremely rare in Northern Moor. The damage caused to the community centre was most likely caused by stones or pellets and I’m disappointed that the show chose to depict otherwise.

“The programme portrayed Northern Moor as an area riddled with crime and anti-social behaviour when in reality this is not the case. Crime and anti-social behaviour continues to decrease in Northern Moor and between 1 January and 14 August compared to the same period last year there were 178 fewer victims of anti-social behaviour, vehicle crime, off-road bike incidents and criminal damage, which are the key areas of concerns for local residents.

“Northern Moor is an exciting and thriving place to live and there is a strong sense of community spirit within the area. The residents that I have met are very proud to live in Northern Moor and rightly so.

“Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is working hard to tackle your local priorities so to even better your quality of life. If you have any concerns following on from the Duchess on the Estate programme then please do not hesitate to contact them on 0161 856 4546 or northenden.apt@gmp.police.uk
